Governor Nathan Deal Signs HB 193 into Law

On April 26, 2016, Governor Nathan Deal signed HB 193 into law. GAHU PAC Chair David Johnson, LUTCF, RHU, CSA, CLTC and GAHU Lobbyist Don Bolia were present for the bill signing.  This one-page piece of legislation was introduced 15 months prior to it being passed. This bill ensures that Georgia consumers who consider lapsing or surrendering their life policies will actively be informed about their “living benefits.” These living benefits include accelerated death benefit, nursing home benefit, critical illness benefit and many more. This is critical information to people facing serious illness. HB 193 is historic in that it also precludes life carriers from penalizing agents who inform consumers of options available to them.

We are thankful for the bold step the Georgia Legislature and our Governor took to protect agents and consumers – particularly our seniors, a group that includes some of the most vulnerable and financially challenged citizens. We were honored to be a part of the coalition working to pass HB 193. HB 193 is good for Georgia!
